Salt Lake City, UTAH (August , 2016) – James D. Gilson, a highly respected trial attorney and former federal prosecutor, has joined Durham Jones & Pinegar law firm as a shareholder in the Salt Lake City office and will be a member of the Litigation Group. Mr. Gilson brings more than 27 years of experience in general business litigation including banking, contract, intellectual property, securities, employment, real property, and probate disputes. He also represents businesses and individuals in white collar criminal defense matters, including federal and state regulatory proceedings.

Gilson comes to D|J|P from a mid-sized firm in Salt Lake City where he practiced as a Shareholder and Litigation Section Chair. Gilson served as President of the Utah State Bar during 2014-2015, and as a Bar Commissioner from 2008-2016. From 2010-2014 he served as Co-Chair of the Utah Supreme Court Committee on New Lawyer Training. During 2005-2008, he was a screening panel member of the Ethics and Discipline Committee of Utah Supreme Court. During 2000-2001, he served as President of the Utah Chapter of the Federal Bar Association.
Gilson has consistently been included in “Mountain States Super Lawyers” since 2008, and was on the 2016 “Top 100” list. He is also listed in “Best Lawyers in America” in the area of commercial litigation. Additional accolades include designation as one of Utah’s “Legal Elite” by Utah Business Magazine every year since 2005, and recognition by the Utah Chapter of the Federal Bar Association with its 2014 Distinguished Service Award. He has an “AV” rating by Martindale-Hubbell.
Following graduation from law school, Gilson was a judicial law clerk to the Honorable J. Thomas Greene and later for the Honorable Dee Benson, of the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah, and was an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Utah, prosecuting white collar criminal matters.
Gilson received his law degree from the University of Utah College of Law, and also earned an Honors B.A. from the University of Utah in English and Political Science.
