Durham Jones & Pinegar sixth-year paralegal, Melissa McKinnon, will run in the New York City Marathon this November. Her first marathon was the Big Cottonwood Marathon in September of 2016, and NYC will be her second. She has completed nineteen half marathons and various smaller races. She started running to lose weight. Three years and one-hundred pounds later, she is still running and keeping the weight off. Her Training consists of four running days a week (usually around twenty to twenty-eight miles), and two strength training days a week. She averages about 120-130 miles per month.
Melissa is running to help raise money for the “Team for Kids” charity. Team for Kids was established in 2002 to help kids become more physically active, to lower risk for childhood obesity and related health issues, improve confidence, and bolster self-esteem. The team consists of adult runners who raise funds for critical services provided by New York Road Runners Youth Programs across the country.
Melissa is proud to be part of such a great cause and wants to inspire a “movement” among the younger generation, “I look around and see the kids of this nation, and I worry that some may not be getting the exercise, supplies, and programs they need in school to better themselves. Suffering from weight issues is difficult, and it can be so lonely and debilitating. Believe me, I know! I never want any of our kids to feel that pain. With that in mind, I joined Team for Kids, and I am asking for your support of their inspiring mission.” Melissa has begun training for the NYC Marathon which will take place on November 5, 2017. Best of luck to Melissa!
