DJP Merges With McDowell & Gillman
October 1, 2005

The Salt Lake City-based law firms of Durham Jones & Pinegar and McDowell & Gillman merged effective October 1, 2005. The firm will continue under the name Durham Jones & Pinegar, with Paul M. Durham serving as its president. The firm now employs over 50 attorneys and maintains offices in Salt Lake City, Ogden and St. George - more locations in Utah than any other law firm.

Duane H. Gillman, formerly of McDowell & Gillman, has become a shareholder at Durham Jones & Pinegar (DJP). A U.S. Bankruptcy Trustee with over 25 years of bankruptcy law experience, Gillman will lead the McDowell & Gillman group as it joins DJP. "We are excited about the synergy this will create for our practice with the outstanding bankruptcy attorneys at Durham Jones & Pinegar. Our practice will also benefit from the other practice areas of Durham Jones & Pinegar," said Gillman.

The merger occurs as long-time Salt Lake City bankruptcy attorney R. Mont McDowell retires after 35 years of legal practice. McDowell has been a leading bankruptcy attorney in Salt Lake City since his 1969 graduation from law school at UCLA.

The merger adds two attorneys, two paralegals, and three staff members to Durham Jones & Pinegar's bankruptcy practice. In addition to Gillman, Michael Thomson, a 2000 graduate of the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah, joins the firm as an associate. As a law student, he served as the Articles Editor for the Utah Law Review.

Durham Jones & Pinegar employs 50 lawyers and 10 paralegals, with expertise in bankruptcy, corporate and securities law, real estate finance and development, banking, tax and estate planning, employment, commercial law, medical malpractice defense, and complex commercial litigation.

Durham Jones & Pinegar's clients range from Fortune 500 companies to individuals and small businesses. In addition to its Utah clients, the firm represents regional, national and international clients. The firm is a member of the International Business Law Consortium, an alliance of over 150 law firms worldwide.

"This is a combination of two premier law firms," Durham said. "We welcome the additional expertise to our outstanding bankruptcy practice."

Founded in 1991, Durham Jones & Pinegar was recognized by the Mountain West Venture Group in 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2004 as one of the "Top 100 Fastest Growing Companies" in Utah.
