< Return to Articles DJP Ventures Into Venture Funds (Read full article) April 7, 2004 DJP recently expanded its corporate and securites capabilities by adding Russell K. Smith as a partner in its Salt Lake City office. Mr. Smith advises institutional investors and fund sponsors in connection with the formation and reorganization of venture capital funds. He has formed venture capital funds having aggregate capital commitments in excess of $600 million. Mr. Smith regularly serves as outside counsel to venture capital funds, including a Fortune 100 Company's quarter-billion dollar fund.
Mr. Smith also represents start-up and emerging growth companies in matters such as: (1) entity formation and initial capitalization; (2) equity compensation; (3) private debt and equity placements; (4)intellectual property transactions; and (5) mergers and acquisitions.
Mr. Smith comes to DJP from Morrison & Foester where he built the corporate and venture fund practice of the firm's newly established San Diego, California office. Prior to that, Mr. Smith spent 9 years in the San Francisco area working for Morrison & Foerster and other regional and national firms.
